Rhythmic Movement Training

RMT is a movement-based Primitive Reflex Integration programme suitable for individuals of all ages. It begins with an assessment of active primitive reflexes and the identification of areas requiring attention, conducted through consultation with an RMT consultant. A tailored series of activities is then provided to support the body in reducing stress and promoting more natural, efficient movement patterns, thereby enhancing overall physical and emotional wellbeing.

RMT explores the role of a baby's natural developmental movements during various stages of early development, including prenatal stages, the first six months after birth, and as the child progresses through crawling and walking. These movements are essential for the development of neural pathways and myelination in the brain, as well as for establishing head control, muscle tone, and posture—the foundation for ease of movement and functional independence throughout life.

RMT supports the integration of retained or underdeveloped primitive reflexes through specific movement-based activities. It is commonly used to address challenges associated with conditions such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, writing difficulties, attention and comprehension difficulties, and coordination difficulties, among others. It has also been used to support individuals experiencing anxiety, panic, emotional dysregulation, PTSD, and stress, as well as various challenges associated with autism.

RMT movements are simple to learn and can be easily practised at home by both adults and children. However, it is not a quick fix; for many individuals, the programme may extend over a year or longer, as the various stages of development are revisited and integrated over time.

Free 20 min call is available to find out whether this is appropriate for you/your child, so please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Cost and Duration

The initial consultation typically lasts around 1 to 1.5 hours, while follow-up consultations usually range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, although this may vary depending on the individual.

For children, a telephone consultation will be arranged prior to the in-person visit (included in the fee). This allows parents to freely express their concerns depending on the child's age and sensitivity. It also enables us to focus entirely on the child during the in-person consultation and remain flexible with the appointment length, potentially shortening the visit if appropriate—particularly in cases where a child may experience heightened anxiety in a new environment.

Clients are expected to return within two weeks of the initial appointment to review and adjust the initial movement programme. This follow-up is important to ensure exercises are being performed correctly, as this significantly improves their effectiveness. Thereafter, follow-up frequency typically ranges from every two to four weeks, gradually extending as the programme progresses, although this will ultimately depend on the individual's needs.
